What in your opinion is better? you can set up alot of ads for affiliate companies which pay you directly and handle all the scripts just like google and it means you can pre-choose very specifically all your adverts and make your website look good despite the ads being on there. You can also get up to £2 each on pay per click ads for things like mortgages but google Adsense is still more commonly used. What would you recommend and why?

Affiliate ads is better only when you're targeting your visitors. Like not all visitors would buy the product/service. On the other hand with AdSense you can earn without targeting your visitors. The more traffic you get the better you'll do with AdSense. So it depends.
