Sometimes a script might ask you to CHMOD the directory or a specify file (aka change permission). So I'll show you how to do that.

What is CHMOD?

Well its basically telling who is allowed to do what. Giving permissions to directories and files. Its a three-digit number basically.

First digit is for the permission of the owner, second is for other members of the same "group" as the owner and the third is for public.

How to CHMOD?

The easiest way to CHMOD would be via a FTP client. If you don't have a FTP client then I would say that you should get SmartFTP. Its free and its pretty good. Or you might also have the option of doing it via your hosting control panel.

Instructions for FTP:

1. Start SmartFTP
2. Find the directory or file you want to CHMOD.
3. Right-click on it
4. Click on Properties/CHMOD
5. Enter your permissions and then click "OK".

Instead of SmartFTP, I use a cool Firefox plugin called 'FireFTP' enables FTP access from Firefox - pretty nifty addon!

the easiest way to chmod for me is to chmod in the cPanel its super easy,i also use cpanel to upload and extract zip files... (faster than ftp

i use mi ftp to CHMOD ... ist very easy ... i recomend fireftp... plugins for mozilla

i use coreftp but will find another one to use
coreftp is crap

it is very easy of make this but there are hostings that dont allow this :P i am using FileZilla :P
