My only comment is that the site may not be able to compete with the big names like bebo, myspace, yuwie and facebook.

But that said if you work hard it may be able to last.

I've already stated in the topic and on the first page I'm in the process of making the design.

I've considered that, but it'll be based on my final design whether or not I will.

I never figured it would. Its more of a learning experience for me.

Why dont you download Dolphin and install that. Will be much better. They have just released v6.1 and they have a team of experts working on it. The script you make will probably be vulnerable to attacks. If you are going to sell the script and improve over time then go ahead but I think that if it is for your site then you should go with Dolphin.
The thing I dislike about Dolphin is that it means that every Tom, Dick and Harry can create a social networking site. Did Mr. Zuckerberg make Facebook successful by simply installing a piece of software made by someone else?

I think this is a nice site, but crikey you've got a lot to do -- it's very very unfinished. I suggest that you get some other people to help you out -- people who know about design, usability and stuff.

For future reference, I would like everybody to look at the (Work in Progress) in the title.

Define usability.

And if I just get people to do it for me, I do not learn.

Of course. I'm not suggesting that you should sit back and get everyone else to do the stuff, but... have you heard the expression "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Focus on and learn about your specialism -- I'm assuming that -- and work in a team with someone who excels in another area. That way, you'll have a great site that is both well-coded and has the benefits of another expert's expertise too.

By "usability", I mean "user-friendliness" -- so someone who knows about usability is someone who has a knack for making websites that do not confuse visitors. Quite an abstract term, I know.. sorry!

I'm not trying to recreate the internet, as thats what you seem to be implying. Front end and back end design capabilities are expected from a web designer. I will not learn the things I need to learn if I leave it to other people. My concern for getting my overall web design skill up far exceeds my concern for having a good site at this point.
